Comments and references: Brucite partially replaced periclase. The brucite corona is stained by dust-size particles of iron-oxide/hydroxide (Fe released from the former wüstite component of periclase). The deformation of the brucite aggregate reflects the significant volume increase caused by the hydration reaction. |
